Wat Phra kaew Temple (also called as the temple of the Emerald Buddha) is one of the major tourist attractions in Bangkok. My friend and blogger Krithi recommended it to me highly during one of our conversations on the places to visit while in Bangkok. I visited this temple on a sunday and came away very impressed. Sharing my experience of the visit to Wat Phra Kaew Temple in Bangkok, Thailand.
One of the first things I noticed (and got overwhelmed by) was the crowds!! It was teeming with tourist from all nationalities. Anyways, I bought the ticket (of 150 Baht, which includes tour of Grand Palace) and proceeded to the main entrance of the temple.
Entering the temple, I was mesmerised by all the gold!! And it was everywhere!! On the pagodas, sculptures, door decoration…you name it and there it was…..glittering gold!!!
Some of the interesting tourists were painting the temple, instead of clicking pics!!
The Wat Phra Kaew Temple is one of the principal temples in Thailand and all important ceremonies are performed by the Royal Family (Crown Prince) of Thailand. There were a number of locals praying in the courtyard and one of the buildings.
I would recommend a visit to Wat Phra kaew just for the wow factor and also if you are interested in traditional architecture. The place is very crowded and I did not feel much spiritual vibes (like i Did when I visited Wat Pho Temple). If you do plan to visit, please keep in mind to be dressed conservatively (with legs and arms covered).
