We visited Bali around 2 years back but the joy & happiness of that trip is still very fresh in our minds (and that’s one of the reasons why I love travelling, for the awesome everlasting memories!!). We had many wonderful moments during the trip , but the best experience was our last evening at Uluwatu Temple.
Uluwatu is one of Bali’s key temples and stands on a high cliff. It is one of the major tourist attractions in Bali and every local we talked to recommended we visit this temple when we were in Bali. While going through my travel archives, I realized that I really got to share the magical evening with my readers & fellow bloggers.
View at Uluwatu
Uluwatu Temple is perched on a rocky cliff at the edge of the Indian Ocean and one has to walk a narrow flight of stairs to reach the temple compound. The lovely views start to emerge as one walks down the stone stairs slowly.
Uluwatu temple is dedicated to Monkey God and there are many monkeys roaming freely in & around the temple compound and they have a particular penchant for spectacles & ladies hairbands!! One monkey smoothly snagged of a woman tourist’s hairband from her ponytail as we watched. The husband who wears a spectacle had to keep it hidden from the prying monkeys but in general, the monkeys are very genial in nature.
The views of the ocean from the edge of the rocky cliffs took our breath away. The views of the green forest on the other side of the cliff was mesmerizing too; actually we couldn’t decide which one was better!!

After walking around the temple, we came to an open air amphitheater, where a traditional balinese song & dance performance was to take place. It was a beautiful place to be, the winds, clouds and the song & dance. It was magical!!
As the performance was nearing the end, the sun also set slowly into the horizon, the soulful music & the setting sun made for the perfect moment.
When in Bali, Uluwatu is a must visit and if you take my advice, save the best for the last, like I did 🙂

The monkeys were after hairbands and eye glasses? Gosh! Scary. 🙂
So much beauty and with that cultural show you witnessed at that amphitheatre I am not surprised the trip was so memorable to you.
It was nice seeing the pictures and hearing about the place. The first image reminds me of California State Route One (or Pacific Coast Highway)
Thank you so much for such a wonderful "visit" to Bali — a spot I've never been and am now convinced I would love!
And thanks especially for your very kind comments on The Marmelade Gypsy. I don't expect this to be an easy journey but a necessary one, made lighter by the support of my friends here and blog friends around the world. You have no idea how much it means. Thanks.

Bali gets in my list of "must visit".
Beautifully captured.
P.S. loved the monkeys 😀
@neeraj – Bali is one of the most exotic honeymoon destinations for Indian couples within budget , much more exotic than mauritius 🙂
Hi!
The first photo is a beauty – makes me want to visit Bali now!
I didn't know Bali was a "honeymoon destination" per se – but no doubt it is a worthy one like Mauritius.
What a magnificent view of the sea. Some rituals and customs do have some meaning.
Wow! I've always wanted to visit Bali!!! And your beautiful pictures just made my resolve stronger! :))
Shouldbe really a beautiful place… Hope to go sooner or later, ciao
