“It will be the road trip Munnar to Thekkady which will leave you mesmerized” said my then fiancé now husband’s elderly colleague when he told him about Honeymoon plans in Kerala(India). So it did too!!!
It was my idea to have our honeymoon in Kerala, but it was my husband who organized the rest – places to visit, itinery & duration of stay. I loved every bit of my Kerala travel and each place I visited – Munnar, Kochi, Thekkady & Kumarakom. But it was the drive from Munnar to Thekaddy, which is etched in my mind till date as the most perfect road trip!! We had the most lovely 2 days in Munnar, driving around tea plantations, lakes, dams & other scenic spots, but now we had to leave for Thekaddy, which our driver cum tour guide told us was different equally nice. Also, he reiterated that we would fall in love with the drive from Munnar to Thekkady!!
We started off on a bright clear morning, with white clouds playing in the sky. The road passed through some of the prettiest views of tea plantations, with tea pickers hard at work.

Just as we had crossed the boundaries of Munnar, we came across one of the prettiest water fall on the side of the road!! We stopped our car, just like a lot of other travelers on this road, clicked pics and also found that there were stalls selling delicious roasted cashew nuts and fresh strawberries. I gorged on the strawberries and the husband bought a couple of packets of cashew nuts to take back home; our genial driver not rushing us one bit to get back on the road.

We got back on the road after a while, only to be stopped in our tracks by one of the prettiest bends!! Lovely tea plantation on one side & a mesmerizing drop & views of the sky & Nilgiri hills beyond!!! Our driver took an ‘artistic’ pic of us both here, to preserve this magical memory forever.

Driving ahead, we came across a number of spice plantations and the delicious scent in the air was so lovely; our car was filled with the aroma (reminded me of Ambipur cardamom elaichi plants growing by the road side (imagine that!!).

As we came down to the plains, we spotted pineapple farms and again, we had to stop by the road and get ourselves the fresh pineapples being sold by the farmers by the road side. They were just yumm!!!

The beautiful road, the magical views around and the sweet smells out me in a dreamy sleepy mode for the rest of the journey and I did not realize, until we almost came to the destination – Thekkady. So, if anyone asks me what a perfect road trip consist of, I have this to say – Magical Views, Genial Driver, lots of fresh yummy fruits & snack pit stops and a smooth road.
Munnar to Thekaddy journey was a perfect road trip and much more.
