“Sunrise looks spectacular in the nature; sunrise looks spectacular in the photos; sunrise looks spectacular in our dreams; sunrise looks spectacular in the paintings, because it really is spectacular!”  ― Mehmet Murat ildan

As a city dweller, one of the major misses in daily life is watching the sunrise; even though I am early riser and make it a point to do yoga at the crack of dawn, the high-rises and all the concrete chaos of the city make it impossible to catch a good glimpse of sunrise (or even sunset). Therefore, I relish these nature’s spectacular shows while on my travels. It was an absolute delight to watch sunrise in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu on an early morning boat ride in the sea.

I was on invite from Chariot Beach Resorts and the good folks had arranged an early morning catamaran ride into the sea to view the submerged temples as well as the UNESCO world heritage Shore Temple. I wanted to be among the first group into the Catamaran and thanks to my habit of being an early riser, easily got up early and reached the Mahabalipuram beach. The sun was yet to come out in the horizon but the boat men and the catamaran were already in action, preparing for the first batch of its travellers.

As we chatted on the beach, the first rays of sunlight cracked through the horizon and it was absolutely beautiful thing to watch. We got on the boat with a bit of help from the crew and as the crew pushed the catamaran into the sea against the waves, we were hit in the face with big waves! Right on! We were almost soaking wet! But it was an exhilarating experience bobbing up and down against the initial waves as we left the shore and I’m sure everyone’s heart was in their mouths for those initial moments!

What a glorious sunrise!

Going into the sea is always an exciting experience, doing it in the morning more so. For me it’s a connect with the miracle of nature and higher faith; of reminding myself that life is much bigger than my small problems and to open up about the beauty of nature. I had an absolute wonderful time while on the sea and I would say it was the highlight of the trip organized by Chariot Beach Resorts.

Many times when  I’m stressed out now (and its been a good 4-5 months), I am taken back to those lovely moments of a spectacular sunrise by the beach and an exhilarating  catamaran ride in the sea.

  1. In Mahabalipuram, there are enormous places like tiger cave beach, shore, and temples. The beach is located near 50 km of south Tamil Nadu. If you visiting the beach at Mahabalipuram, you have to Stay in Mahabalipuram for visiting more places.
