Ladies Market in Hong Kong is one of the top 10 attractions for tourists/travelers and locals. I visited Ladies Market on the first night in Hong Kong itself, with my friends. It was a great way to experience the nightlife buzz of Hong Kong on my first night there and I completely loved the vibrant Ladies Market, located in Kowloon side of Hong Kong.
With over 100 stalls spread over one kilometer stretch, Ladies Market in Tun Choi Street is a shoppers’ heaven, especially for those who love a good bargain. It is easy to reach Ladies Market via public transport in Hong Kong – Either (i) Take MTR and get down at Mong Kok Station, exiting at E2, then walk along Nelson Street for 2 blocks, or (ii) Take Bus 1, 1A, 2, 6, from Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier and get down at Nelson Street Station. The fun begins as one gets down at Mong Kok in Kowloon, the bright and flashy neon signboards line the streets, giving a festive look. On weekends, there is a rush of locals and tourists alike; some of the locals also put on street performances, so walking along the streets, one can see many musicians & dancers doing their thing.
Ladies Market has many things on sale, from bags to clothing to electronic items. The displays are as interesting as the goods themselves. While I did not shop for bags (I had my fill of those shopping in Bangkok), I quite liked the Hong Kong logo Tee-shirts and bought a dozen for my friends & family members. A good tip to buying here would be to check every item for defects before parting with cash. We had an issue with the sizes, after going back home and checking, as did not check each shirt size and were content the sample shirt size shown!
If you are a big time bargain shopper, it is recommended that you go in early and keep comparing prices as you walk down; generally the prices start coming down with consecutive stalls down the line. Also do drive a good deal as the shopkeepers at Ladies Market seem tough but they actually are facing lot of competition from fellow shopkeepers (selling same stuff).
I loved my experience at Ladies Market and though I did not buy much at the Market itself, it was a nice time spent looking at the array of goods on sale.
