Chandi Devi temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand is a revered Hindu pilgrimage site in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India.  Haridwar is an ancient town and a prime pilgrimage destination for Hindus and has many temples, of which Mansa Devi is one of the primary piths (or pilgrimages). Therefore, it sees busy footfalls all-round the year.  Haridwar also happens to be my second home and I keep visiting it regularly. This time around, we had some  extended family members coming to visit  us in Haridwar and on their agenda was religious tour of the city. So we took them to visit Chandi Devi Temple, along with the usual Har ki Pauri. I am sharing my travel notes for the benefit of religious traveller or anyone wanting to visit the Chandi Devi temple when in Haridwar.

Chandi Devi Temple Entrance to Cable Car Ride

The ChandiDevi temple is located on a hillock and the easiest way to reach the temple is to take a ride on the Cable Car (called Chandi Devi Udan Khatola Seva). For any pilgrimage traveller who is looking to visit Mansa Devi Temple also, its best to take a package tour kind of cable ticket which is available at any of the two temples. It covers cable car rides to both temples as well as road travel by shuttle bus from Mansa Devi to Chandi Devi temple. Also, Anjani Devi Temple is also located in the same complex, in the adjacent hillock, so one can visit this temple after Chandi Devi Temple.

Pro Tip : It is best to first visit Mansa Devi Temple, get the package cable car tickets there and after visiting this temple, proceed to Chandi Devi Temple.

Chandi Devi Temple seen from the cable car

We reached the Cable Car booking office at around 8 a.m.   and got the package tickets. After visiting Mansa Devi Temple, we headed towards Chandi Devi Temple. I must mention that the Cable Car service is ISO 9001:2008 certified, which means it goes through system of safety checks as per ISO standards. In fact, I found the cable car service, which includes booking tickets, going through the security checks and manning of the cable car was done diligently & timely (and for someone whose profession is Environment Health and Safeguards, you can take some assurance on my opinion!!). The temple is open between 6.00 am. to 8.00 pm. and the morning aarti at the temple begins at 5.30 am. L

Chandi Devi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Chandi Devi and is highly revered by devotees as a Siddh Peetha which is a place of worship where desires get fulfilled. It is one of three such Peethas located in Haridwar, the other two being Mansa Devi Temple and Maya Devi Temple.
